Forty-six years ago, the Telugu film industry introduced a phenomenal talent: Konidela Sivasankara Varaprasad, better known as Chiranjeevi. Recently, Chiranjeevi was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor, by the Government of India. Now, another prestigious accolade has been added to his illustrious career. On September 22, 2024, the Guinness World Records recognized him as the “Most Prolific Film Star in the Indian Film Industry” in the Actor/Dancer category. This recognition holds special significance as it coincides with the anniversary of his debut in 1978.
Chiranjeevi has performed over 24,000 dance moves in 537 songs across 156 films over his 45-year career, a unique and remarkable achievement that brings immense pride to Telugu cinema and the Indian film industry as a whole. Guinness World Records adjudicator Richard Stenning, speaking on the occasion, praised Chiranjeevi’s extraordinary contribution, stating, “After thoroughly reviewing all 156 films and his dance performances, we found this achievement to be officially amazing.”
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, the chief guest at the event, shared his admiration, stating, “I am honored to witness this historic moment. Like millions of his fans, I am also a die-hard admirer of Chiranjeevi. He didn’t need to invite me—he could have just commanded my presence. One move from Chiranjeevi is enough to electrify audiences. His inspiration reaches far and wide, even beyond India.”
It was also revealed that in China, Chiranjeevi is affectionately known as the **”Indian Michael Jackson”** for his iconic dance moves and style. Chiranjeevi, in a gracious gesture, presented Aamir Khan with a special commemorative pen during the event.
Reflecting on the honor, Chiranjeevi shared, “This moment is unforgettable, and having Aamir here makes it even more special. I never sought recognition from the Guinness World Records, but it feels incredible to be honored for my dancing. It’s dancing that truly made me a star and brought me so many rewards throughout my career. I still remember dancing in front of legends like Savitri and my first dance steps on screen. I owe this recognition to the directors, producers, music directors, and choreographers who always made sure to showcase my dance performances in films. I am deeply thankful to Richard Stenning for coming all the way to honor me.”
Despite battling illness (chikungunya), Chiranjeevi ensured he was present to celebrate the occasion. His speech touched on his childhood memories and how dance has always been a part of his life, even unknowingly.
The event was, adjudicated by Mr Richard Stenning from London and attended by some of the biggest names in the industry, including Raghavendra Rao, Allu Aravind, Gunasekhar, Surender Reddy, Mallidi Vassishta, Aswini Dutt, KS Rama Rao, Suresh Babu, Tammareddy Bharadwaj, B. Gopal, Kondanda Rami Reddy, and Bobby KS, among others. Chiranjeevi’s family members, including **Sushmitha, Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej, Vaishnav Tej**, and other members of the mega family, were also present. Mega fans who have donated blood over 100 times were given the rare opportunity to witness this historic moment live.
