TFCC Chairman Dr. Pratani Ramakrishna Goud expressed gratitude to Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Film Development Corporation Chairman Dil Raju for taking initiative to address several pressing issues in the Telugu film industry.
He appreciated the recent coordination committee meeting where topics like theater ticket pricing and food concession prices were discussed. Speaking at a press meet held at his office today, he said:
Dr. Pratani Ramakrishna Goud stated “Recently, I raised concerns in a press conference regarding issues like high ticket prices and expensive food items in theaters. It is a welcome step that the Telangana government is now taking these matters seriously. Under the leadership of Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Chairman Dil Raju, the coordination committee met and discussed various challenges facing the film industry.
We have been urging that cinema must be made more affordable and accessible to the common audience. Nowadays, movies are reaching OTT platforms within a month of their theatrical release. High ticket prices and expensive food items are discouraging audiences from visiting theaters.
Recently at the Thammudu movie event, Mr. Dil Raju advocated for raising ticket prices — this effort is commendable, as discussions are at least taking place. On another front, the digital content providers like Qube and UFO are charging far higher rates in our region — around ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 — while in cities like Mumbai, it’s below ₹3,000.
For instance, when I released the movie Jhansi in 50 theaters, over ₹5 lakhs were spent just on digital content providers. This has become a heavy burden, especially for small producers. Around 90% of films made annually are by small producers. Unfortunately, hundreds of completed films — nearly 400 to 500 — are not being released due to such financial hurdles.
Actor Pawan Kalyan has been a strong supporter of Tollywood. We hope he intervenes in this digital provider charges issue as well and helps reduce the burden. Soon, we will meet him on behalf of TFCC to congratulate him and present these issues.
A producer can survive only if films run successfully in both Telugu states. Platforms like BookMyShow are causing losses to producers due to high commission fees. Ticket booking services should be provided through FDC (Film Development Corporation), which would help stop the exploitation by private ticketing companies.
Soon, we will represent these issues before the governments and Deputy Chief Ministers of both Telugu states on behalf of TFCC.”
The event was also attended by TFCC Fighters Union President Ravi and others.
